Slide to dismiss notifications on the MAC

the devGeneral

It never fails. I will move to do something in the upper right hand part of my screen just as a notification comes in. Without a close button there’s really no way to dismiss the damn things.

I searched around and read that you can 2-finger swipe them from left to right. Awesome!

I sent myself an email from my phone, and when the notification came in I was ready. I hovered over it, took my 2 fingers and swiped.

Nothing. Ok, let’s try 3 fingers. Nothing. I tried swiping left, then right. I tried with 2 and 3 and 4 fingers. Nothing. The damn things just stayed there.

I searched around a bit, with not much luck. I mucked around with my settings and was finally able to figure it out.

Apparently the gesture it feeds off of is the Swipe between Pages one. I normally have mine set to be used with 3 fingers, but for some reason that won’t trigger on the notification to dismiss it. I found that if I set it to use either the Scroll left or right with 2 fingers or the Swipe with 2 or 3 fingers then I can continue to use 3 fingers for the gesture as I normally do, but then I can dismiss the notification with a 2-finger swipe.
